Bank Holiday Feast (August)

Where has this sun gone?!?!!?!? Genuinely I am distraught about the lack of heat and sunshine we have been experiencing. I think we have had 2 good weeks? I may be overexaggerating of course but still… not happy.

There is however, one good thing that always comes out of August. The Bank Holiday. A great time really whether it is pouring with rain or the sun is so hot it burns you through your parasol. Given that we live in the most changeable weather country in the world, I have decided to choose 4 wines that should cover all bases for you. BBQ, Indoor picnic or even a fancy dinner. So off we go:

Saget La Perriere La Petit Perriere Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Admittedly a bit of a mouthful, which is good for a wine really so you’re winning already! A very easy drinking, pleasing and tasty wine. Understand that it is there for you to enjoy the start of your bank holiday and you will not be disappointed. Classic Sauvignon Blanc flavours on the nose and mouth with an elegant finish. This is your main white wine for your BBQ, indoor picnic and as an aperitif for your fancy dinner. Up next:

Vergelegen Premium False Bay Chardonnay 2018

Vanilla, tropical fruits and citrus. If I could just write that I would. This is a fascinating representation of Chardonnay from South Africa. A beautifully crafted white wine that goes with almost everything and anything. Minerality is superb with lovely acidity coming through towards the end, bringing all tastes and scents to a lovely crescendo for long finish. Definitely a wine to impress your guests for all three of the occasions that I mentioned above. Moving on:

Zuccardi Mendoza Valles Bonarda 2018

On the tasting note for this wine on our website I have written ‘This wine is by no means perfect but for £13.99 it is an absolute steal in my opinion.’ I would suggest that you listen to me 😉. I have been continually amazed and surprised by this wine, it just goes perfectly with any red meat you serve it with. Dark and sour cherries, blackberry leaf and leather are the main flavours that come to mind with this wine. A truly magnificent Bonarda that we are so happy we can sell to you. An all-round pleaser so I would definitely go for this with your BBQ and Picnic. Last but not least:

Rapaura Springs Marlborough Pinot Noir Reserve 2013

Forest floor, herbs, cherries, strawberries and raspberries. A gorgeous and clean Pinot Noir from our friends in New Zealand. A rich palate, silky tannins and a very generous helping of red fruits is what really makes this wine tick. I have thoroughly enjoyed this wine each time I have tasted it and one would be hard pushed to find a better Pinot Noir from Marlborough in my humble opinion. Every single guest will be thrilled with this wine and I would definitely suggest this being your centre piece at your fancy dinner.

I hope you all enjoy your bank holiday weekend when we get to it. I also really hope that the weather holds out for all of us and we can all enjoy a sunny and festive weekend.

If you do have any questions or queries please do email us and we will be happy to provide some more wine for thought!
